“I take away wisdom, knowledge and understanding
I have the power of a living death and death itself, in my cunning powerful crushing claws.
I have destroyed more men than all the wars of all the armies of all the nations in the word.
I have since creation of the first man cast my dark shadow of death, destruction and desolation on more homes, a thousand times more than my closest equal.
I am relentless. I am everywhere. I even destroy man’s very spirit and soul.
I spare no one. I take all!
I work slowly and silently – hidden and undetected……..
You are warned against me, but you do not heed.
No one seeks to destroy me. I reign unchallenged, unopposed.
I don’t discriminate, age, gender, ethnicity or social standing all are equal before Me.
I bring degradation sickness of mind, body and soul, sin and death and the grave is my rewards.
My victims are those who drink of my cup of affliction, dominating mortuaries, hospitals, dungeons and jails.
Divorce courts, and orphanages, even the grave of the unwanted and unborn child is mine. Almost all of the mentally insane belong to me.
I am your worst enemy. You do not even know it!
You do not choose me. I choose you. I can crush who ever …….
I choose in my cynical deathly claws. Yes, I am the evil one.
I have the power. I am the king of death.
I am the mighty…..two in one…..
King Drugs and Alcohol.
Listen to my seductive and challenging whisper……
Try me just once or you wont know what you are missing!”
DRUG TALES
Understanding drug addiction or substance abuse is absolutely necessary in the fight against this scourge. You may not be an addict, but chances are that you know one, or at least someone whose life is affected by it.
An addict affects the lives of all those around him/her. The closer you are to the person the more it affects you. The addict affects mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, relatives, neighbours and friends. It affects communities and nations.
The introduction to drugs is usually under the auspices of ‘experimenting’. This is normally because of peer pressure and/or the pretext of being hip/cool/or whatever they call it today.
It is also usually done with so-called ‘harmless’ drugs, and there are many.
The most popular ones are Marijuana, Ecstasy and Cocain.
The effect that these drugs have is, in principle, all the same. It gives you a ‘high’. This means it makes you feel better than you would feel without them. This is so because it affects the nervous system and all your problems seem to go away. In effect, it erases the reality. For a while at least. Problem is that it only lasts for a short time. Then reality creeps back in. It is much easier to make reality go away for a while than to deal with it. This is the danger.
As you become more and more involved with the drug you need more and more.
Later on you need stronger doses, then stronger drugs. By now you are well on your way to becoming an addict. You are well on your way to dealing with reality by escaping it.
